Denise

Denise J. Cai received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California in San Diego in 2004 where she completed an honors thesis under the direction of Ebbe Ebbesen. While initially planning to pursue a law degree, she was captivated by the field of learning and memory and instead pursued a doctoral degree in psychology and behavioral neuroscience. She earned her PhD in 2010 at UC San Diego with Drs. Sara Mednick, Stephan Anagnostaras, and Michael Gorman. Denise completed her postdoctoral training with Alcino Silva at UCLA in 2017 with the support of an NRSA from NIMH. She joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as an Assistant Professor in 2017, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022, and received tenure in 2023. She has been named an Allen Institute Next Generation Leader, an American College of Neuropsychopharmacology Member, and a Klingenstein-Simons Fellow. Denise has been awarded a McKnight Memory and Cognitive Disorders Award, a One Mind Rising Star Award, and an NIH Director’s New Innovator Award.
